Most Filipinos are not aware that there are 200 species of sharks in the Philippines. Each day, more and more of these beautiful sea creatures disappear due to overfishing, shark product trade and habitat destruction - even before they are discovered. How can we make Filipinos care and help save these natural treasures before they are gone?
To save the sharks, we saved their scientific data in the blockchain as an immutable record. We created 200 one of a kind NFTs, each containing scientific information from the only compendium of sharks published by Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines. We then took the cause to the OPEN SEA, the world's largest marketplace of NFTs in the metaverse. To save the files, users would have to spend cryptocurrency which translates to real money, to help fund the Marine Wildlife Watch's research and efforts to, in turn, save the sharks in the real open sea.
